Co-working spaces rise in Mumbai as rental and office costs zoom

Forty new co-working spaces have come up in the country’s commercial capital as rental and office costs zoom, said a new study.


Co-working is a style of work that involves a shared working environment, often an office, and independent activity. Unlike in a typical office environment, those co-working are usually not employed by the same organisation.

Another 50 new facilities expected in 2017. As of today, there are than 2,500 seats within such facilities available across different micro-markets in the MMR, said Ramesh Nair, chief operating officer at Property consultancy JLL in a note.

 While the average occupancy across the city is currently around 60 per cent, this is expected to decline once the recent seat additions in most micro-markets are leased out.
